Gaining! - a descriptive story by Renee Ekdahl

IT was gaining on me, as I turned to look back IT did not look happy, and whatever IT was I had NEVER seen it before! It all happened when I got lost at scouts, and went to stay the night in a cave, and IT awoke. I was thinking to myself "Can it climb?". So I took a risk and climbed the nearest tree. IT could climb too, so my only options were either to get attacked by this maneating thing or jump. I jumped, my leg was stinging. I knew it was broken then I saw a farm house I was so relieved I got up and ran. IT was gaining on me! When I had got through the painful run to the farm house I rang the bell, no answer! Again I rang and again and again. No answer, I knew the only thing I could do now was yell. "HELP!!!!!!!!!!"
I must have got the attention of someone. I heard rattling in the barn. I ran to the barn and there was a farmer, relief! The farmer and I hid. When IT had left I was so grateful, I didn't care about my leg. I WAS SAFE.....

First Basketball Title for St Pius!

The St Pius Scorpions celebrated a great victory on Monday night by beating Mangorei 27-18 in the Division 2 Basketball final. It was a tough game, and winning is difficult when you haven't won a final before.
"It was the hardest game ever" said Jordan "Someone tripped me up and I landed on my hip and arm - it hurt!"
"They played well, but we played better!" said Daniel.
"At 8-8 it was tough, because they had caught up from 8-2" said Lucy Gi.
"It was made even harder because of the pressure of the finals" said David.
"The opposition were terrible at shooting but very good at defence" said Sacha.

Bubbles created by Shianne O'Donnell

Have you ever felt stuck in a bubble, gasping for air
But all you can see is bare?
No help
No way out
Its just you flying alone until
You pop the bubble
You get fresh air
And you're soaring through the air
Waiting to land
And feel the soft sand
No more worries

Making a movie

Yesterday Corban, Corben, Josh and Ben had a go at making an animated movie. Ben got the idea of choosing animated bunnies. To make the movie we had to choose the characters and then typed what they said. On the website it said "if you can type you can create", so we did! You can find our movie at:

We hope you enjoy it, and look out the rest of the series!

Room 1 Scientists! by Lucy George and Tyson Hutchinson

In Room 1 we have a science table with lots of interesting things on it such as........
Fools Gold! Shark poo! Amethyst! Moon stone! Geodes! And a huge Sperm Wale tooth!
Why do we have a science table?
We have it so that we can look at unusual and everyday things, and we can ask questions about them. What is it? Where does it come from? How is it formed? Where is it from? How could we find out more about it?
Tyson: We like it because it has lots of awesome stuff on it.
Lucy: There are things that other people might not ever see. We could find out more about it by asking my Aunty Annette, who is a geologist.

A Rippa Day of Rugby by Olivia Johns

Our hearts were thumping and we were sweating all over our bodies! Time was going by, and we KNEW it was! I was breathing heavily, hoping to be able to gain more speed.
"RIP!"
It was only my first game and I already had my first rip! I was so proud because the person I ripped was really fast! I didn't get one try but I was happy that our team got an intercept pass from the other team.
I was really excited, but the downside of the day was really grazing my legs from diving on the ground. But, I didn't really care about it. After a few minutes I was fine and back on the field. We lost the first four games closely, but we won the first game of the knockout round. Sadly we didn't make it to the final though. It didn't matter though, as we did our best and had lots of fun!

Joyfulness By Jordan Roylance

Joyfulness feels like a rabbit in the grass
Joyfulness tastes like bacon in my mouth
Joyfulness smell like fresh kahawai in my smoker
Joyfulness sounds like my favourite song in my head
Joyfulness look like dolphins jumping out of the water
Joyfulness is the colour yellow as the sun
